Two youths were killed in a tragic road accident at Palsahi Chhak in Naugaon block of Jagatsinghpur district while returning from Gorekhnath temple after Sawan Monday darshan. The deceased were part of a group of four friends from Baselisahi in Puri district who had travelled on two motorcycles for the pilgrimage.

The victims were identified as Amit Sahoo, who died on the spot, and Chittaranjan Routray, who succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

According to reports, the mishap occurred early Monday morning when the motorcycle carrying Sahoo and Routray collided head-on with a passenger bus on their way back to Puri.

The four friends, Amit Sahoo, Chittaranjan Routray, Debashish Swain, and Biswaranjan Mohanty, had visited the temple on Sunday night. While Debashish and Biswaranjan were riding ahead, Amit and Chittaranjan followed behind on a separate motorcycle. The collision occurred at Palsahi, killing Amit instantly and leaving Chittaranjan critically injured.

Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims and informed the two other friends, who had already covered a few more kilometres. Debashish and Biswaranjan returned immediately and alerted the families of both victims.

“We had travelled a few kilometres ahead. They said they would follow us. When we noticed they weren’t behind us, we kept calling. A person answered and told us about the accident. We rushed back immediately,” said Debashish Swain.

Following the accident, locals staged a protest by blocking the road and placing the body at the accident site. Police later reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
