Two individuals lost their lives, and two others were critically injured after a car plunged into a pond late Wednesday night at Junei Square near Bansi bazar, Konark.
The deceased have been identified as Sandeep Mahapatra from Nimapada and Sanatan Senapati from Medinipur, Kolkata.
The accident occurred as Sandeep, who was driving the car, suddenly encountered a parked car on an under-construction road while travelling towards Bhubaneswar from Konark. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Sandeep steered sharply to the right, causing the car to lose balance and plunge into a nearby pond. The sudden accident resulted in the instant death of two, while the other two sustained critical injuries.

As per reports, local Fire Services personnel rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and carried out a rescue operation. All four passengers were promptly taken to Gop Health Centre, where doctors declared two of them dead. The two injured passengers, initially in critical condition, are reportedly stable after receiving medical attention.
According to sources, the two injured hail from Balasore.
Following the rescue operation, the damaged vehicle was transferred to the Konark Police Station. Meanwhile, the Konark police has launched an investigation into the matter.
