Twelve days after traffic constable Shubhamitra Sahu went missing from Bhubaneswar, the ongoing investigation has taken a fresh turn with police detaining a clerk from the Twin City Police Commissioner’s Office for questioning.
The clerk, identified as Deepak Rout, has emerged as a prime suspect in the case following fresh leads and a complaint filed by the constable’s father last night.
Detention Of Clerk From Commissioner’s Office
According to sources, Rout was picked up for interrogation after evidence surfaced suggesting that he had accompanied Shubhamitra in a car journey towards Keonjhar’s Tarini temple.
Sources reported exclusive evidence of both Rout and the missing constable together during the trip, with OTV also accessing a photograph of the said car. Following this lead, police searched through highway CCTV cameras and toll gate footage, reportedly confirming that Deepak was driving the car in which Shubhamitra was seated.
Notably, family members had earlier raised suspicion about Rout, urging the police to question him in connection with the disappearance. Shubhamitra’s father also filed a formal complaint at the Capital Police Station, naming Rout as a suspect.
Meanwhile, sources added that Deepak Rout had reportedly remained absent from duty for two days following the disappearance of Shubhamitra. He had, however, resumed duties afterwards until he was detained this morning and taken for interrogation.

Constable Missing Since September 6
Shubhamitra, a native of Paradip and posted with Bhubaneswar traffic police, was last seen on September 6 after completing her duty in the Suryanagar area under Capital police limits. She did not return home that evening, prompting her mother to file a missing complaint.
Despite search operations, she has remained untraceable. To widen efforts, the Commissionerate Police earlier released her photograph on social media and announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for credible information.
Officials also collected details from the traffic SI who prepared the shift chart, while senior officers, including the ACP and IIC, were kept informed of developments.
While Rout remains under detention for interrogation, the Commissionerate Police has not issued any official statement on the case and detention of Rout so far.
