A tribal youth, Rajesh Mirdha, alleges torture by police at Chipilima Outpost in Sambalpur district following his detention for a battery theft on July 3. His mother and he filed a complaint with the District Welfare Officer who has requested an inquiry.

In yet another case of police atrocity, a tribal youth alleged that he was tortured by the cops at Chipilima Outpost under Burla police station in Sambalpur district after being detained in connection with a battery theft case on July 3. The victim has been identified as Rajesh Mirdha.

Mirdha and his mother lodged a complaint before the District Welfare Officer (DWO) in this regard on Friday evening. 

In response, DWO has written a letter to Sambalpur SP to conduct an inquiry into the incident.

As per the allegation, a police team from Chipilima Outpost reached Mirdha’s house and questioned him as part of an investigation process regarding the theft of a battery. Subsequently, they took him to the outpost and thrashed him mercilessly. Mirdha has sustained serious injuries in the process.

“Police took me to Chipilima Outpost in connection with the theft case and questioned me. They thrashed me mercilessly and I was severely injured in the process,” said Mirdha.

However, no reaction could be obtained from the senior police officials in this regard.
