In a poignant tale, the legacy of Sitaram Meleka from Kelubadi village under Narayanpatna block of Koraput district took an unexpected turn after his death on Monday. The hidden treasure previously kept by the elderly man under the ground was exhumed by his son.

According to sources, the seventy-year-old daily wager scrimped and saved his earnings for decades, burying them beneath the soil to safeguard his family's future. Yet, his aspirations were thwarted as most of these hidden reserves could not be utilised before his demise.

Following Sitaram’s passing, his family uncovered a part of the buried treasure beneath a mango tree located behind their home. The discovery included bundles of currency notes totalling around Rs 32,000 in cash, although much of it had deteriorated beyond usable condition.

Now, his family speculated about the existence of further hidden riches, possibly including gold ornaments, and kept exhuming the property, which is underway.

The Meleka family remains hopeful, continuing their search for more buried wealth to fulfil the intended purpose set by Sitaram in his lifetime, the elderly man’s son said.

The family laments as the treasure preserved for them to meet their exigencies has become unusable. “My father had a noble intention but to no avail,” the elderly man’s son stated.
