The Odisha Government enacted measures against officers of the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) who have not adhered to transfer orders by vacating their posts. The wrongdoers will lose their salaries, a notification issued on Saturday in this regard mentioned.

According to sources, letters were dispatched by the Revenue Department to all District Collectors, instructing them to withhold the salaries of OAS officers who fail to commence duties in their newly assigned positions, the official communiqué emphasised.

The missives explicitly warn that officers neglecting the transfer instructions will be subjected to disciplinary actions. Despite the first set of transfer orders being issued on August 17 and September 10, compliance has been inadequate among some OAS members.

Consequently, the State government implemented penalty measures as a means to ensure procedural adherence.

“Several officers are busy in election-related works in different districts. Permissions have already been obtained from the electoral officer with regard to the transfer of those OAS officers,” Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said mediapersons.

“Many transferred OAS officers are putting pressure to cancel their transfer orders and I have the information of it. District Collectors concerned should have relieved those OAS officers. The Collectors had not relieved them at different places on the pretext of some petty pending works,” the Revenue Minister expressed.

“However, on behalf of the Government, we had centrally relieved the OAS officers. Who will wait for another Relieve Order, their services will be discontinued, and they will not get their salaries. In case the officials do not join their new workplaces by this evening, the OAS officers will be treated as ‘suspended’,” Revenue Minister Pujari warned.
