Tragic death while shooting reels; Uttar Pradesh truck driver falls off bridge in Odisha’s Sundargarh
The obsession with mobile reels has once again proven fatal, claiming yet another life—this time in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. In a tragic incident near K Balang Police Station under Koida block, a truck driver lost his life after falling off a bridge while allegedly filming a video for social media.
According to initial reports, the deceased has been identified as Suresh Kumar, a native of the Chapki Police Station area in Uttar Pradesh. He was reportedly driving an 18-wheeler truck from Rourkela towards Koida on Saturday morning.
Sources reveal that Suresh had parked his truck near the 520 National Highway bridge, which falls under the jurisdiction of K Balang Police Station. In an attempt to shoot a reel—possibly for social media—he climbed onto the bridge railing. However, due to a lapse in attention or misstep, he lost his footing and fell from the bridge.
Police officials are conducting the preliminary investigation and suspect that the accident occurred due to negligence while attempting the video shoot. The fatal fall led to severe injuries, which ultimately proved fatal.
The incident came to light later in the afternoon when some local residents noticed a man lying critically injured under the bridge. They immediately informed the nearby police station. Officers from K Balang Police rushed to the spot and identified the victim.
Despite efforts to rescue him, Suresh was declared dead on the scene. His body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway to confirm the exact sequence of events and whether any bystanders or mobile footage can help clarify the circumstances.
The incident has once again sparked discussions around the growing trend of risky behaviour for the sake of creating viral content on social media platforms. Authorities have urged the public, especially youth and drivers, to exercise caution and not indulge in dangerous activities for the sake of online popularity.
Police have also reiterated that such negligent actions not only endanger individual lives but can also create traffic hazards and legal consequences
