Three sisters die of snake bite in Odisha as family takes them to quack for treatment
A pall of gloom descended on Chariapalli village under Tikarpada panchayat in Boudh district after three sisters died due to snake bite late on Monday night after Nuakhai celebration.
The deceased have been identified as Surabhi (3), Subharekha (12) and Sudhirekha (13), daughters of one Sailendra Kumar Mallick of the village.
According to sources, the trio along with their father was sleeping in a room when a venomous snake bit all of them.
Instead of taking them to a hospital, their family members first took them to a local quack for treatment. However, they were later rushed to Boudh District Head Quarters Hospital (DHH) after their health condition deteriorated, sources informed.
The youngest Surabhi succumbed first while undergoing treatment, Subharekha and Sudhirekha died one after another, sources said, adding that their father was shifted to Burla hospital after his health condition worsened.
“After having dinner, the trio along with their father went to sleep. A snake bit them at around 1 am when they were asleep. We rushed them to the hospital. But the three sisters died during the treatment,” said a relative of the deceased family.
