Three migrant labourers from Nabarangpur district were killed in a road accident in Telangana on Monday. The victims have been identified as Jayaram Bhatra, Narayan Bhatra and Chetaman Bhatra, all residents of Bakadabeda under Umerkote police limits.
According to reports, all three of them died on the spot after a speeding goods-laden truck hit them during roadside plantation work in the Sikandar Kaman area under Keesara police limits in Telangana. Their bodies are expected to reach their native villages today.
Accident During Roadside Plantation Work
Sources stated that a group of 14 labourers from Bakadabeda had travelled to Telangana around 12 days ago as migrant labourers. They were engaged in tree plantation work along the roadside in the Sikandar Kaman area, under Keesara police station limits of the state.
On the afternoon of August 11, the workers were returning to their work site after lunch when a speeding goods-laden truck approached from behind and hit them. The impact killed Jayaram, Narayan and Chetaman on the spot while other workers narrowly escaped with minor injuries.
Police Action and Post-mortem
Telangana Police reached the scene shortly after the incident, seized the vehicle involved and transported the bodies to a nearby health centre. Post-mortem examinations were conducted on August 12. Officials subsequently informed the families in Bakadabeda about the tragedy.
Local sources confirmed that arrangements were made to bring the bodies back to Odisha in a dedicated ambulance, accompanied by surviving co-workers from the same group.
Since receiving news of the deaths, Bakadabeda has been plunged into mourning. “They left home to earn a livelihood for their families. Now, they are returning as lifeless bodies. The accused should be arrested,” said Sayendra Bhatra, son of the deceased Jayaram Bhatra.
