Three die of suspected diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Ganjam, health team visits spot
In the wake of three deaths allegedly due to a suspected diarrhoea outbreak, a health department team on Thursday reached Damapur village under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district to investigate the situation.
Officials, including the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Block Development Officer (BDO), and Tehsildar, visited the village to assess the situation firsthand.
Reportedly, the health team has been conducting door-to-door inspections to identify the source of the outbreak and contain its spread.
According to sources, over five people in the village have fallen ill while three have already died under mysterious health conditions, possibly linked to contaminated water or poor sanitation during the monsoon.
Health department officials held discussions with the families of the deceased and affected villagers to gather more information and offer necessary medical advice. Financial assistance of Rs 20,000 each has been provided to the families of the deceased as immediate relief.
Sanitation drives, water quality checks, and awareness campaigns have been initiated to prevent further infections. The administration has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to control the situation and provide treatment to those affected.
