The students of Sadashiv High School at Dahana village under Nabarangpur’s Nandahandi block were taken by surprise after they found a pack of three bears roaming on their school premises on Monday morning.
As per reports, the bear pack included a female bear and two cubs.
Following the intrusion, the students were asked to remain in their classrooms. Later, the school was suspended.
“There are five bears in the area. We think we are in danger because of this. It would be of great help if the Forest officials come here and make the wild animals leave the residential area,” said a student of the High School.
School headmaster, Abhilash Sahoo said, “When I heard that there are bears on the school campus, I rushed there and asked the teachers to close the doors of all the classrooms from inside and not allow any student out of the classes. I am afraid they can get aggressive and attack the students if they feel threatened.”
Asked about the incident, Nabarangpur ACF, Dhanurjay Mohapatra said, “There are two buildings in Sadashiv High School; one is old and another is a new building. As per my information, the bears are at the old building. The school has been suspended to avoid any incidents.”
“Our staff have been deployed in the area to keep a tab on their movements. They will try to shoo them away in the night,” he added.
