The Forest Department has started the process of treating a sick elephant calf in Dabarchua Reserve Forest under the Patana range of Keonjhar district.
The Forest Department came to know about the sick calf from the visuals recorded by a thermal drone camera. The animal has been wandering in the Daburchua reserve forest for the last one week. After knowing about the sick jumbo calf, the department has started its efforts to treat it. Before treatment, it has to be tranquilized so that veterinary doctors can go near it.

According to the Forest Department, the calf is six months old. One of its forelegs is injured. Moreover, the villagers are extending their full support to the forest department staff for the treatment of the sick animal.
“The elephant calf is like our child. We are sorry for it. However, the Forest Department is trying its level best to treat it. Now they are trying to capture it. We are praying for its speedy recovery. Including the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), all the Forest Department staff are on the spot,” said Gopal Chandra Nayak, a villager.
