Politics is now active in Odisha after former Narla MLA Balabhadra Majhi quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) citing his displeasure over the party’s functioning. Senior Congress leader and MLA Suresh Routray on Wednesday made a startling revelation while indicating a rift in the ruling BJD.
Routray today claimed that several BJD heavyweights are in touch with the Odisha Congress. Moreover, some of the BJD leaders are also in direct contact with Routray, the veteran Congress MLA said. According to Routray, there are multiple ticket aspirants in a constituency and others are also a disgruntled lot as well in BJD.
“BJD will not get a leader like Balabhadra Majhi and he was with the party for long. He could not stay in the party over the dictatorship regime. Not only him, but several BJD leaders are in contact with Congress. They will join Congress if they are denied a ticket,” Routray said.
Routray further said that several senior BJD leaders are trying to get tickets for their sons.
“It is learnt that the tickets of some BJD heavyweight leaders will be cut. If the BJD leader’s children do not get party tickets, they will switch to Congress camp. A lot of BJD Ministers and MLAs are in direct contact with me,” Routray added.
Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from the BJD and BJP leaders over the claims made by the Congress MLA.
