Tension gripped Baripada PRM Medical College after allegations of negligence in treatment and misbehaviour by nurses surfaced. The situation turned chaotic when relatives of patients claimed that children were not being treated in the paediatrics department and were being mistreated.

Ruckus After Claims of Poor Treatment in Paediatrics Ward

Agitated people reportedly gheroed doctors and nurses, creating a ruckus within the medical facility. According to reports, the family of a man said that his infant son had been admitted four days ago but was not given proper treatment.

The patient’s relatives said that when they questioned the doctors and nurses, they were misbehaved with on different occasions.

Attendant Alleges Neglect and Threats by Nursing Staff

One of the attendants shared his frustration and said, “It has been four days since I admitted my son here, but the problem and health issue still persist. When I asked the doctor, we were advised to administer my child with Oxygen every four hours. But when I went to the nurses and informed them that it was time to administer Oxygen again, they yelled at me and asked me to put him on the life-saving gas by myself. I do not know anything about medical procedures, how was I supposed to do that? It is their job but they have been neglectful from the very beginning.”

“One of the nurses even pulled the oxygen mask off my son’s face and threatened me. She told me, ‘I am not going to let your son be on oxygen. Go call whoever you want and do whatever you wish,” he further added.

Nurses Deny Claims, Say Situation Being Aggravated Deliberately

In response to the situation, nurses on duty claimed that some individuals were deliberately creating disturbances in the working process and spreading dissatisfaction.

Doctors Assure Inquiry, State Child’s Condition Stable

When contacted, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics stated that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident and action would be taken against the guilty.

A doctor responded and said, “It is our duty and job to look after the patient, and we are already doing that. The child is in stable condition, however, due to blockage in his nasal passage, it is difficult for him to breathe during the nighttime.”

“I am getting inputs from multiple sources about what happened. We will look into the matter further. If we discover any discrepancies then we will take actions accordingly,” he further added.
