Bhubaneswar witnessed high-voltage political drama as Congress workers clashed with the police during their protest march towards the Odisha Assembly on Thursday. The situation at Lower PMG Square quickly escalated into chaos, turning the area into a virtual battleground.

Angry Congress workers allegedly resorted to stone pelting, targeting the police with bricks and stones. Additionally, eggs, tomatoes, and water bottles were hurled at security forces, intensifying the unrest. In a fit of rage, some protesters even threw chairs, further escalating tensions.

The Congress protestors, raising slogans against the government, demanded immediate action on women's safety issues. Security was heightened in and around the Assembly to prevent any untoward incidents. Despite the suspension of their legislators, the party vowed to continue its fight for justice.

In response, the police launched a crackdown to control the aggressive mob. The police resorted to mild lathi charge and used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protestors.

However, amid the demonstration, normal proceedings continued inside the Assembly.

Govt Is Responsible: Congress

“Congress has hit the street demanding safety and security to the women and students in the State. The government has to ensure this else our protest will continue,” said Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President, Bhakta Chanran Das.

“We are the voice of these people. We were sent to the House to represent them. But we were suspended. The CM yesterday said what significant has happened that a House Committee would be formed? A day before yesterday, a girl was raped and murdered in Phulbani. Two kids died after consuming Anganwadi sattu. The government is responsible for this,” said Cuttack Barabati MLA, Sofia Firdous.
