Corporal punishment: Teacher of Convent school in Odisha 'brutally thrashes' Class 3 student; no action yet

A Class 3 student was rendered critical after a lady teacher allegedly beat him up in a convent school in Odisha’s Paradip. As per the allegations, the Maths teacher brutally trashed the boy with a cane, leaving him critically injured.

The alleged inhumane torture by the teacher has spread outrage among locals, guardians and other students who demanded the teacher to be expelled.

According to sources, the Teacher got furious because he hadn’t done his Maths homework. She then brutally canned him. He has scars all over his body. His hands and legs have swollen, his family alleged.

On the other hand, instead of taking action against the accused teacher, the school Principal allegedly misbehaved with the child’s father. 

“She has beaten him so much that his blood has turned blue. He has scars all over his body. Fearing us, our son was not telling us anything. Later, I met the Principal and apprised him of how corporal punishment was going on in the school. Instead of listening to my pleas, the principal instead threw me out of the school,” alleged the child’s father.

With no other option, the child’s family later approached the local police and lodged a written complaint in this connection. Based on the complaint, police took the student for medical examination and launched a probe into the incident.

On the other hand, the Principal and school authorities have admitted to the child being beaten up by the teacher. However, the principal rubbished the allegations that he misbehaved with the family members of the victim.

Until the last report, police had not arrested the accused teacher.
