Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading rooftop solar solutions provider, on Tuesday launched an affordable rooftop solar initiative in Odisha under its flagship campaign, ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’.

Affordable Solar from Rs 2,499

In a bid to make clean energy accessible to every household, the company has introduced a consumer-friendly financing model. Under the scheme, residents can install a 1 kW rooftop solar system with a minimal upfront cost starting at Rs 2,499.

“This initiative is designed to convert the aspiration for solar energy into an economically feasible reality for Odisha’s population,” a TPREL official stated.

One-Third Payment Model

The first-of-its-kind model enables consumers to pay only one-third of the total installation cost upfront, with the balance covered through easy payment options and subsidies. This is expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of residential rooftop solar systems across the state.

Double Benefit: Central and State Subsidies

The scheme is bolstered by substantial financial incentives. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, consumers are eligible for up to Rs 78,000 in central subsidies for systems up to 3 kW—accounting for nearly 40% of the installation cost.

Further, the Odisha government supplements this with an additional subsidy of Rs 25,000 for a 1 kW system and Rs 50,000 for a 2 kW system, making solar power even more affordable for households.

Solar Adoption on the Rise

Thanks to the awareness created by the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign, Odisha has witnessed a sharp rise in rooftop solar installations. In FY 2024–25, TPREL added 1,033 new residential solar customers in the state—a tenfold increase from the previous fiscal year.

The commercial and industrial sector also showed steady growth, with 76 new consumers added in FY25, up from 56 in FY24.
