Gone are the days when women were dependent on their husbands. Their hard work, strong determination, and will to stand out and set an example have now given them new identities.

Around 36 women of Mahulia panchayat under Chadbali block in Bhadrak district have proved that small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. Tailoring and stitching clothes has given all of them their new identity.

They are now the most sought-after tailors in their area and people of all age groups reach their tailoring unit for stitching any kind of clothes. Starting from a small tailoring unit, these women have now turned their unit into one of the most loved units in the area.

With their inner desire and strong will, they have carved a niche for themselves and paved the path for other women in society as well. It has become a source of livelihood for all the women in the area and given them a purpose in life.

“We join work at around 7 AM in the morning and continue till 12 PM. Later, another shift starts at around 3 PM and ends after 5 PM. This easily helps us earn somewhere around Rs 5-6K per month. This has made us self-reliant and independent,” said a member of the group.

“Putting aside the money we earn every month, this job has brought us self-satisfaction. Before this, we used to spend time just gossiping and chatting. We had to depend on our husbands for money. However, we are now independent and extending a helping hand to our families,” said Monica Sutar, President of the SHG group.

“We are delivering our items to Cuttack, Bhadrak, Chandbali, and other places. We also get orders from marriage parties and other people that help us make our livelihood,” she added.
