The suspension tenure of Rajesh Pandit, the contentious Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been extended by a further 60 days. This decision was taken by the Home Department. Pandit’s prior 120-day suspension period concluded today.
The review of his suspension was conducted by a committee on January 22. After scrutinising the data and documents against him, the committee decided to prolong his suspension.
Pandit was initially suspended on July 30 last year by the State government following allegations of violating the Indian Police Service rules. The suspension was in response to an incident in the Capital Police Station area that occurred on July 27, 2024.

Pandit was accused of abusing power and undermining the dignity of his position, resulting in an initial 60-day suspension. Subsequently, his suspension was extended from September 28 for another 120 days by the government, making this the third extension.
As per the allegations, on July 27, Pandit forcibly entered the house (under the jurisdiction of Capital Police Station) of a married lady inspector of Odisha Police serving in the Bhubaneswar Economic Offences Wing of the Odisha Crime Branch. The IPS Officer allegedly attempted to drag the lady inspector out of her house and wanted her to marry him.
Later, officials of the Capital Police Station took the intoxicated IPS Officer into custody.
