Odisha has launched a new initiative to empower women through skill training, thanks to a collaboration between the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur and the World Skill Centre. This programme aims to boost self-reliance among women and bolster the rural economy, a partnership signed during the 'Subhadra Ru Mudra' session at the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha conclave.
The formalisation of the partnership witnessed the presence of Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida. Deputy Chief Minister Parida stated, "The World Skill Centre will assess and map the skills required, while IIM Sambalpur will develop the marketing strategy. We perceive this as the beginning of a transformative journey for the women of Odisha."
Parida also noted that the Subhadra programme intends to incorporate various sectors, including agriculture and paddy procurement, to provide a holistic approach to women’s empowerment.

Launched on September 17, 2024, the Subhadra Yojana is a women-centric scheme aimed at empowering women aged 21 to 60. The initiative plans to aid over 10 million women through direct financial assistance of Rs 50,000 over five years.
The programme focuses on uplifting women from economically weaker sections, promoting economic and financial independence, and enhancing awareness of women's rights. It also aims to improve health and educational outcomes while encouraging digital financial literacy and supporting women's entrepreneurship.
