The Odisha government will reopen the Subhadra Yojana portal after August 9, allowing young women aged 21 and above to newly apply for the financial assistance scheme. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.

The Deputy Chief Minister also confirmed that the scheme’s third instalment will be disbursed on August 9, coinciding with Rakhi Purnima.

This fresh round of applications is part of the government’s efforts to widen the reach of its flagship women empowerment initiative while also rectifying previous exclusions and strengthening verification.

New Survey to Reassess Nearly 2 Lakh Rejected Cases

Parida informed that around 2 lakh beneficiaries, who had earlier received the Subhadra benefit, have faced rejection as they failed to meet the post-disbursal eligibility norms.

The Deputy CM said that many of the excluded beneficiaries have filed income tax returns, purchased vehicles, or owned five or more acres of land, criteria that disqualified them from continuing in the scheme.

“There has been a rejection of around 2 lakh beneficiaries, who had earlier received instalments, as they have filed ITR or bought a vehicle, or have been found to have 5 acres of land in their names,” informed Pravati Parida.

To address public concerns over these exclusions, the state government has decided to conduct a fresh field-level survey to reassess those previously disqualified.

“There will be another survey of the beneficiaries after August 9. Only an eligible person will avail of the benefit. The Subhadra portal will be opened again after August 9. Those who would have turned 21 by then could get added,” she added.

Transition of Senior Beneficiaries to Pension Schemes

In another development, approximately 93,000 beneficiaries who have crossed 60 years of age are being transitioned to receive benefits under pension and social security schemes. Their records are being forwarded to the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department, which will evaluate them for appropriate pension coverage.
