Stringent actions will be taken against persons involved in unauthorised sub-letting of the government quarters in Odisha, Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan warned on Sunday.

Individuals who have been allotted quarters but are renting them out, as well as those residing in them, are deemed culpable. The General Administration Department is compiling a list related to this issue. Moreover, an eviction process has already begun where such cases were identified, an official source said.

The current objective is to ensure government accommodations are allocated to persons as intended. A detailed plan in this regard is underway to demolish old or dilapidated structures and replace them with new vertical housing projects.

This will allow more people to live comfortably in a given area. Odisha Government is actively working on this initiative, the Works Minister expressed.

“Some of the government quarters have run down over the years. Likewise, some people have occupied two to three residential quarters. GA Department has started preparing a list of unauthorised possessions and evicting the occupants,” the Works Minister stated.

“Vertical housing projects will help accommodate more government employees, up to two to three times conveniently. So that, the accommodation issues can be resolved, particularly in Bhubaneswar,” Minister Harichandan added.
