The School and Mass Education Department suspended the headmaster of a government high school on the charges of bungling Mid-Day Meal (MDM) meant for school children. The accused headmaster has been identified as Srimanta Kumar Dehury, of Jhadeswari Government High School, Tolkani in Jajpur district.

According to sources, Dehury allegedly sold away all the MDM items including eggs and pocketed the money. Instead of egg and rice, he would force the students to eat rice just with salt and chilli. On most days, he would not give anything to the students and sent them away with Rs 5-10 biscuit packets.

The headmaster has also been accused of being involved in several such irregularities and often remained absent from the school. Neither did he bother to provide the clothes, bags and other things to the students sanctioned by the government.

After repeated complaints by the students and guardians, a probe was launched by the School and Mass Education department. The concerned headmaster was suspended after the probe found irregularities in the implementation of the mid-day meal and other irregularities in the school.

“Srimanta Kumar Dehury, Headmaster (Sr. SES), Jhadeswar Govt. High School, Tolkani, Jajpur is placed under suspension with immediate effect pending drawal of proceeding under Rule-15 of OCS (CC&A) Rules, 1962, due to negligence in Govt. duty,” read the suspension letter.

Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from the accused headmaster.
