The Odisha government had issued an order to keep all schools closed from April 23 due to the severe heatwave in the State. The Government warned on Thursday that strict action will be taken against schools remaining open in violation of the official directive.

Circular by S&ME Department
The School and Mass Education (S&ME) department has issued a circular in this regard to all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure strict implementation of the instruction.
In its previous order, the Department had clarified that the ongoing examinations would not be affected and would continue as per the pre-announced schedule. Students residing in hostels were permitted to stay in the facilities.
Additionally, Anganwadi centres operating between 7.00 AM and 8.30 AM will also remain closed. The State government had decided that food meant for Anganwadi children would be delivered to their homes.
What Odisha Minister had said:
“This order will not affect the pre-scheduled examinations and the exams will be conducted as usual. Besides, the Anganwadi centres running from 7.00 AM to 8.30 AM will remain closed until further orders. Mid-day meals will be provided to the respective beneficiaries at their doorsteps,” Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari had said.
“Keeping in mind the rising temperature in different districts of Odisha, the Chief Minister had conducted a high-level review meeting. It was decided that classes in all schools will remain closed from tomorrow (April 23), until further orders. The official notification will apply to all government and non-government schools across the State. However, hostel inmates can reside in the facilities if they so desire,” the Revenue Minister had expressed.

“In case there is a drop in the temperature, an order to reopen the schools will be issued. Further decisions will be taken if the prevalent situation improves,” Minister Pujari had added.
