According to sources, two young men from Laxmisagar allegedly died after consuming adulterated foreign liquor sold from a liquor outlet at Old Station Bazaar on Cuttack-Puri Road in Bhubaneswar. The liquor store, which has been officially closed, is accused of illegally selling spurious alcohol. The incident has triggered tension in the locality, prompting officials to seal the liquor outlet involved and launch a detailed probe.

Along with the fatalities, five more individuals are reported to be in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at a medical facility. The tragedy has led to widespread tension and unrest in the locality.

Reacting swiftly, the Excise Superintendent, along with his team, visited the spot and sealed the liquor shop suspected of being involved in the sale of adulterated alcohol.

A probe has been launched to trace the source and composition of the illicit liquor.

Authorities are appealing to the public to remain calm while assuring that stringent action will be taken against those responsible for the illegal liquor trade.

Liquor samples sent for testing

“We got a complaint that two to three persons had become sick and were hospitalised. They had purchased liquor from a shop. Hence, our team inspected the stock and collected liquor samples for testing. Things will become clear after a chemical test report comes in. Since a mob is present at the spot, we sealed the outlet,” Deputy SP-Excise Rajsekhar Swain said.
