In the run-up to the monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Speaker Surama Padhy has convened an all-party meeting on Tuesday to seek cooperation from all political parties for the smooth conduct of the House.

The monsoon session will be held from September 18 to 25, spanning seven working days.

According to sources in the Assembly Secretariat, the meeting will discuss the government’s proposed legislative agenda as well as issues flagged by the opposition. The Speaker has urged all parties to maintain order in the House and ensure constructive debates on matters of public importance.

Meanwhile, political parties have lined up a series of preparatory meetings ahead of the session. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislature party is scheduled to meet tomorrow at 5 pm at Shankha Bhawan, where the party is expected to finalize its floor strategy. Similarly, the Congress Legislature Party will hold its meeting at Congress Bhawan to chalk out its plan of action.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators are also likely to meet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The meeting will be attended by senior leaders including state BJP president Manmohan Samal.

With issues ranging from governance to welfare schemes and opposition’s criticism of government policies, the stage is set for a stormy session. Political observers believe that the coming week in the Assembly will witness intense debates and exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches.
