Odisha Heat Wave
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued directions in view of the heat wave by prohibiting power cuts from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and from 9:00 PM to 06:00 AM. This directive, among others, was issued during a review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, where the CM took stock of the state's preparedness to manage the rising temperatures.
Strategy and Preparedness
Speaking to district collectors and department secretaries, CM Mohan Majhi noted significant temperature rises in many districts. Despite forecasts suggesting a dip in temperatures, he emphasized caution and urged governmental readiness. Emphasis was laid on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be diligently followed, and district officials have been encouraged to act beyond these guidelines if necessary.
SOP for Morning Classes in Schools
In response to the ongoing heat wave impacting several regions, the Chief Minister also called for immediate action to protect school children. The administration has been tasked with developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reschedule school timings, ensuring children start their day earlier. The CM has directed Anganwadi centres, which provide childcare and early education, to operate from 07:00 AM to 09:00 AM to avoid the searing midday heat.
Water Scarcity Solutions
Addressing the pressing issue of water scarcity, the Chief Minister announced that the Panchayati Raj Department has sanctioned over 17,000 borewells. In locations suffering acute water shortages, district collectors have been advised to facilitate the installation and repair of borewells within a week to maintain a stable supply of drinking water.
