Days after Tirtol MLA Bijay Shankar Das applied for registration of marriage at the sub-registrar office in Cuttack, his rumoured girlfriend Somalika Dash has knocked on the doors of the Orissa High Court.
Somalika, who has accused the BJD MLA of betrayal, filed a petition in the High Court on Tuesday seeking a stay on the marriage registration, it was learnt.
According to sources, Das is all set to marry a girl identified as Pratyusha Nanda, a resident of Arunodaya Market area in Cuttack. The legislator had submitted an application on September 21 for marriage registration with Pratyusha at the office of the registrar, Cuttack.
However, Somalika who has brought a series of allegations including rape against him after he did not turn up for the marriage, also submitted an objection against the marriage application at the sub-registrar office.
“Even though the case is sub-judice, he is going to marry another girl and spoil her life. While I have been running from police stations to court for justice, he wants to enjoy his married life. Considering the sanctions used against him, he would have been arrested by now. But, he is free because of his political power,” Somalika stated after filing her objection recently.
Speaking to the media, Somalika said, “I have submitted the High Court’s acknowledgment letter to the sub-registrar demanding a stay on the marriage registration application since the matter is sub-judice. I have also complained over discrepancies in age mentioned by Bijay in the marriage registration application.”
When contacted, the sub-registrar said, “Somalika has filed a WP(C) with the High Court and come here to submit the acknowledgment letter. Moreover, she has accused the applicant of forging his date of birth. While he mentioned in the marriage application that he is 30 years old, other documents show he is 31.”
Worth mentioning, Bijay had also applied for marriage with Somalika at the sub-registrar’s office. However, he did not show up following which Somalika has been running from pillar to post seeking justice.
