A snake was discovered inside the dicky of a scooter in Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, on Friday night, sparking panic among locals. The incident occurred when a baby non-venomous snake emerged as the scooter owner returned from a pharmacy trip.
Sujit Giri, a resident of Chandrasekharpur, noticed the reptile inside his scooter’s storage compartment after purchasing medicines and immediately alerted others in the area.
Snake Helpline Called for Rescue
Alarmed by the discovery, Giri immediately informed the Snake Helpline. A member of the team reached the spot promptly, rescued the snake, and later released it into a natural habitat.
Recalling the incident, Giri said, “I was out to get medicine and when I opened the dicky, I found the snake inside it. I got scared and called the snake helpline. They assured me that they would reach out immediately, and they did.”
Monsoon Increases Snake Movement
Experts note that the monsoon season is when snake hatchlings are born and begin to roam in search of shelter. For safety, people are advised to carefully check shoes, buckets, vehicles, and other objects kept outside and used regularly. Such precautionary measures can help avoid unpleasant incidents.
Precautions for Vehicle Owners
Rescuers cautioned that loose nuts and bolts or improperly closed dickies and car doors can allow insects or small animals, including snakes, to enter vehicles. They advised regular checks and ensuring vehicles are securely shut to prevent such incidents.
