SJTA chief backs Daitapati Nijog’s demand for devotees’ dress code in Srimandir
The Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Ranjan Das on Thursday came out in support of the Daitapati Nijog’s demand for dress code for devotees visiting the 12th-century shrine.
While backing the dress code demand of the Daitapati Nijog, Das said, “I would like to request the devotees coming to the temple that they should come wearing clothes that are congruous with the temple’s spiritual atmosphere. They shouldn’t come in clothes as someone is going to a swimming pool or a sea beach.”
“Dress code is in place at several temples in the Country. After the decision in this regard, steps will be taken to implement it,” he added.
The Nijog on Wednesday raised the issue of dress code and demanded that the devotees in western attire should be provided a changing room to change clothes and enter the temple in appropriate clothing.
It is worth mentioning that the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has already made dress code compulsory for servitors from October 20, 2021. As per the dress code, all the servitors have been directed to wear Dhoti, towel, and Patta while performing puja, but observers opine that the rule is yet to be followed religiously.
