A proposal to amend the Shri Jagannath Temple Act will be sent to the Odisha government. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held at the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office today. The temple’s Chief Administrator, Aravinda Padhee, stated that the existing penal provisions are inadequate for incidents like flying drones over the temple and capturing photos or videos inside the premises using mobile phones. To formalize this, a committee led by the District Collector has been formed to draft the amendment proposal, according to Padhee.
Major Discussion Points
During the meeting, which was presided over by Chief Administrator, discussions were held on various important topics, including:
• Preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival)
• Progress of preservation and renovation of the Ratna Bhandar (Temple Treasury)
• The budget for the financial year 2025-26
• Implementation of air-conditioned darshan arrangements at the Nata Mandap
Major Decisions Taken
One of the most significant decisions taken during the meeting was to replace the five corroded iron beams of the inner and outer Ratna Bhandar with stainless steel box beams.
These beams, which were found to be damaged due to rust and decay, will be repaired and replaced by Akshaya Tritiya, according to the temple administration.
“The important decision taken was regarding the 5 iron beams connecting the inner and outer Ratna Bhandar. These beams will be replaced with 5 stainless steel beams. The Khodalite stones are also being replaced by identical ones,” said Padhee while addressing mediapersons.
Additionally, the temple administration has decided to launch an official YouTube channel for Lord Jagannath from the Odia New Year, and establish an information center near Gundicha Temple, and install LED display boards for pilgrims.
