The Orissa High Court has directed the state government to reinstate a Hindi teacher who lost her job following the return of another teacher previously dismissed from service.

According to a report of The New Indian Express, Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad issued the order while hearing a petition filed by Binodini Nayak, who has served for more than two decades without blemish.

Nayak was appointed as a Hindi teacher at Udayanarayan Vidyapith in Dhobasila, Balasore, on January 5, 2005, after her predecessor, Ramesh Chandra Parida, was terminated in 2004 for long unauthorised absence. Her appointment received formal approval in April 2012 with retrospective effect from 2008.

However, the Supreme Court overturned Parida’s dismissal on April 2, 2024, and ordered his reinstatement, which forced Nayak out of her position despite her long service. Seeking relief, she urged authorities to adjust her against vacant posts in aided schools, but the Secondary Education Department rejected her request in September 2024, citing a pending review plea.

The High Court noted that the review petition had already been dismissed in January 2025, and criticised the ‘colonial mindset’ of officials in handling her case. Quashing the department’s order, the Court directed that Nayak be reappointed under the block grant scheme.
