Several news channels in Odisha sensationalizing Pahalgam attack, spreading misinformation for TRP
In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 innocent tourists lost their lives, a disturbing trend has emerged across various news and social media platforms. Several mainstream television news channels and YouTube creators are spreading sensational and unverified reports about India’s response, including claims of an impending war with Pakistan and ‘surgical strikes’.
These reports have been proven false, with no official confirmation from the Indian government. In reality, the Indian government has taken significant diplomatic steps such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing the Attari border as a mark of protest but there has been no declaration of war or any military operation against Pakistan.
Faking News for TRP
However, thumbnails of several videos and news headlines such as ‘Surgical Strike in 2 Hours’, ‘PM Modi’s Big Attack’, and ‘India Declares War’ continue to flood television broadcasts and online platforms. These misleading claims are being used to generate viewership, increase TRP ratings, and exploit public emotions in the wake of national tragedy.
Responsible Journalism More Crucial Than Ever Now
This sensationalist reporting not only misleads the public but also escalates tensions, fostering panic and misinformation. At a time when the nation is mourning the loss of innocent lives, responsible journalism is more crucial than ever. The propagation of fake news under the guise of patriotism serves neither the interests of the public nor the integrity of our country.
It is essential for viewers to rely on verified information from official government channels and credible sources. As the country seeks justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack, truth and restraint must take precedence over ratings and revenue.
PM Modi’s Big Promise
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly stated that India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and backers. “We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism,” the PM said.
He further assured justice to the victims while ensuring a punishment out of imagination for the terrorists and the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack.
