These new hatchlings were born inside the zoo's exhibit enclosure to a breeding pair brought in from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in Chennai back in October 2019.

With the arrival of the newborns, the zoo now houses a total of 14 yellow anacondas- two adult males, two adult females, and ten juveniles.

Another female is also expected to deliver shortly, according to the zoo’s deputy director, Sanath Kumar.

Immediately after their birth, the baby anacondas were placed under quarantine to ensure proper care and monitoring during their initial stages of development.

Zoo officials explained that once the young snakes are strong enough to consume prey independently, they will be transitioned back into the main exhibit.

Anaconda Enclosure Revamp

Plans are underway to revamp the anaconda enclosure to accommodate the growing population. While wild yellow anacondas can reach lengths of up to 14 feet, those raised in captivity typically grow to around 10 feet.

Native to regions such as Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil, the yellow anaconda thrives in humid environments.

Reportedly, Nandankanan Zoo carefully replicates these natural conditions to support their healthy growth and survival.
