A major security lapse on the part of police came to light on Tuesday after a person accused of loot escaped from police custody from the Bhubaneswar court premises. The escaped prisoner has been identified as Prashant Kumar Ghadei, who has several cases pending against him in various police stations in Bhubaneswar and Jagatsinghpur districts.

As per reports, Airfield Police had arrested Prashant Ghadei in connection with several complaints of loot filed against him at various police stations. He was sent to Jharpada jail. Police took the accused from the jail to produce him before the court of the district sessions judge, Khordha, in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning.

Soon after reaching the court premises, the accused went to the toilet and managed to give police a slip. Baffled, police frantically looked for the accused in the court area, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, police have started a manhunt but he was untraceable by the time of filing of this report.
