At least 90 girl students from Classes four to six in Mayurbhanj district walked six kilometres to appear in an examination on Wednesday.
As per reports, the girl students of Bhaliadiha School under Mayurbhanj’s Morada block have their Panchayat-level Mathematics test on Wednesday at a different school six km away.
Without getting any other means of travelling, the headmistress of the school walked them to their exam centre six kilometres away.
Sources said, the Mass Education department has roped in an NGO to conduct mathematics tests in some districts of Odisha to improve the mathematical skills of school students. However, neither the government nor the NGO has made any provisions for the students to travel to their respective test centres. Therefore, the students were forced to make their own travel arrangements.
there is no problem for those who have their own means to travel, those with poor background are forced to walk.
No comments could be received either from the district authorities or the headmistress of the school.
It is pertinent to mention here that at least 14 students from Badaraisingi Ashram Residential School in Rayagada district walked nearly 25 kilometers on Saturday and reached the Collector’s office to lodge a complaint against their headmaster.
They complained against their headmaster who allegedly neglects in the food served to the hostel boarders. The students also alleged that the headmaster abuses them.
