Health services at Odisha’s prestigious Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital were adversely affected for the second consecutive day on Sunday following a power cut for over six hours.
After the power cut crippled health services on Saturday for over 10 hours, patients had a harrowing time inside the hospital on Sunday as well with several departments remaining in the dark for long hours.
Patients have been deprived of blood test and CT scan due to such frequent power disruption at the hospital. The gross negligence by the hospital authorities has triggered resentment among patients and their attendants.
Despite repeated complaints, repeated power cuts have remained a major concern at the medical institute. Patients and attendants had a harrowing time due to the power cut. Many had to leave their beds and go out to get air while others were seen using handmade fans and newspapers to get some respite from humid conditions.
There was no power from 5 am in the morning till 7pm in the evening yesterday, reports said. Doctors had to treat the patients using mobile lights.
When contacted, SCB Medical Superintendent, Sudhanshu Shekhar Mishra said, “The electricity problem at the Medicine Ward has been sorted out. As far as the electric works go by, I cannot say anything as of now. We are trying to prevent such power outages in the future as both patients and doctors have to suffer.”
“I request the Electricity Department to review things as SCB is an important medical institution and such electrical faults should be addressed as thousands of patients depend on the hospital,” he added.
