The body of a married woman was recovered from her in-laws' house on Tuesday night with her family members alleging that she was murdered for dowry.
The deceased has been identified as Juktamukhi Mohapatra (22) and her husband as Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra.
The couple was married as per Hindu rituals and in the presence of their family members. However, on Tuesday night, the body of Juktamukhi was found hanging in her in-law's house.
Pradipta lodged a complaint at the police station alleging that his wife died by suicide.
However, the family members of Juktamukhi dismissed the claims and alleged that she was killed because of dowry.
“They have killed our daughter for dowry. We want justice,” said Juktamukhi’s father.
The elder sister of Juktamukhi said, “Juktamukhi’s in-laws used to demand dowry and torture her. They are behind the death of my sister.”
“The father of the victim has lodged a dowry complaint and we have initiated a probe into the matter,” said Kuchinda SDPO Amitabh Panda.
