As many as 18 agencies of the State and the Centre including the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Police, Forest Department, Fishery Department, Odisha Police, Central Industrial Security Force, and Intelligence Department on Thursday carried out a two-day-long joint security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach-2’ on the coast along West Bengal and Odisha.
This exercise has been carried out every six months since the 26/11 Mumbai attack in which the terrorists from Pakistan used the sea route to enter India.
The exercise involves two teams-red and blue. As per the normal practice, the read team comprising officials from various departments tries to infiltrate and the blue team tries to foil their bid by intercepting them.
On the first day, the exercise was carried out at different locations in and around Paradip town including the fishing jetty, Mahanadi mouth, slum, radar station, lighthouse, film hall, trade center, bus stand, port gate, administrative building, and factory gates.
The objective of the drill is to ensure coordination among various departments to tackle terrorist threats.
