A portion of a road at Chakra Tirtha road near Bedi Hanuman temple in Puri caved in on Tuesday.

Around a five-foot wide hole has been created due to the caving in of the road. Communication along the road has been completely halted putting the locals and tourists into trouble. Both sides of the road have been sealed by the Puri Sea Beach police station after the incident.

As per reports, the road near the temple caved in while a bus was plying on it. The road had earlier caved in due to damage in the sewerage system. It was repaired then ahead of Rath Yatra.

Local residents alleged that the road caved in again due to the shoddy repairing work undertaken by the administration. They have demanded immediate repair of the road.

“Ahead of Rath Yatra, the shoddy construction work was carried out in a hasty manner and as a result, the road caved in again. As many as 60 tourists were in the bus when the road caved in. Fortunately, they had a close shave. Lord Jagannath saved them all. After the completion of Rath Yatra, the administration forgot about the poor condition of the road leading to the development,” said a local resident.

“We demand immediate quality repairing work of the road,” he added.
