The one thing that comes to our mind when we think of Rath Yatra is gigantic chariots being pulled on streets across the globe, including at Puri in Odisha.

But there is a place in Odisha where the Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are taken out in a procession in a boat.

Such a unique Rath Yatra is observed on the blue waters of Chilika.

Kankan Sikhari dham is popularly as known as the ‘Leela Kheshtra’ of the Lord. It is accessible only by boat from Nairi village in Khordha district.

Here the deities are taken out of the temple on the islet on three boats which are joined together. Later, a chariot is constructed and the deities are placed inside it.

The Chilika lake turns into Bada Danda or the grand road for this unique Rath Yatra in the state which is being celebrated for the past 10 years.
