A day after the Rath Yatra, chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra will be pulled by devotees today in Baripada which is known as the second ‘Srikhetra’ after Puri.
The deities were taken atop the chariots in a grand procession known as ‘Goti Pahandi’ on Tuesday. As per the age-old tradition, the chariots will be pulled today.
The chariot of Lord Balabhadra will be pulled first followed by Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath. As per the tradition, women devotees only will pull Subhadra’s chariot.
However, the chariot of the goddess will be pulled for half of the way today.
The chariots of Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra will be dragged up to the Gundicha temple tomorrow.
Thousands of devotees thronged Baripada town on the occasion of Rath Yatra to witness ‘Pahandi’ of the deities who were brought onto the chariots from the temple yesterday.
