Rasulgarh pandal gate collapses as heavy rain lashes Bhubaneswar

Heavy rain in Bhubaneswar led to the collapse of a 30-foot pandal gate at Rasulgarh Durga Puja, causing traffic disruptions. The mishap occurred around 4 PM, attributed to gusty winds accompanying the rain. An Orange warning was issued for Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by the Regional Meteorological Department. Rasulgarh is showcasing a Swaminarayan temple replica this year.

While preparation for Durga Puja is in full swing across the State, a heavy downpour lashed Bhubaneswar on Sunday afternoon resulting in the collapse of a 30-foot high pandal gate of Rasulgarh Durga Puja Committee.

The 30-foot high and 20-foot wide light gate collapsed completely following the heavy downpour at around 4 pm causing the traffic snarl on the route. 

The light gate will be dismantled completely following the mishap, sources said.

“The light gate couldn't stand the rain accompanied by gusty wind. Several light boards were damaged in the mishap,” said an eyewitness.

Earlier today, the Regional Meteorological Department issued an Orange warning for heavy rain for the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

This year, Rasulgarh Durga Puja committee is coming up with a replica of Gujarat’s famous Swaminarayan temple.

The 80-foot-high and 120-foot-wide replica of the Swaminarayan temple has reached the final stage with 40 artisans from Kolkata giving final touches to the pandal.
