Continuous rainfall has led to widespread waterlogging, with rainwater entering houses in Malkangiri town. Due to the failure in drainage, residents are facing severe inconvenience as their homes have now effectively turned into drains.

This recurring problem has worsened this year, particularly in Jayapuria Guda Sahi, where the stagnant drain water has heavily accumulated inside homes. According to reports, the lack of proper drainage infrastructure has caused the situation to spiral out of control.

One of the residents shared his woes and said, “Everywhere people have built houses and with no space for the water to flow, that’s why the situation is this bad. Earlier there used to be waterlogging but it lasted only for a few hours. However, this year, with no way for the water to get out, rainwater has clogged inside the houses.”

Given the frequent nature of waterlogging during monsoon, people in the area have resorted to shifting their furniture and appliances to upper floors or placing them at an elevated height to protect them from damage.
Residents say they are forced to take such preventive steps every year due to the lack of any permanent solution.

Another resident shared her frustration and said, “Due to incessant rainfall in the last two days, this waterlogging situation has occurred. We have not cooked and eaten anything; we are in a very bad state.”

As drainage remains a major issue across several parts of the town, residents have urged local authorities to take immediate measures and ensure long-term planning to prevent the situation from repeating every monsoon.
