With incessant rains lashing for the last couple of days, almost all the rivers in Malkangiri district are in spate. The situation has thrown life out of gear.
As per reports, roads at many places have been submerged and bridges have been washed away severely disrupting transportation.
Road communication from Malkangiri to Koraput and neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has been snapped.
Due to the heavy rain and flood-like situation, several places have been waterlogged and alienated from the mainland. The continued rainfall has crippled daily life across the district, with major rivers flowing above danger levels and several bridges coming under the storm water. This has reportedly brought vehicular movement to a standstill.
More than 200 families at Poteru area under Kalimela block have been stranded at their houses as their village has been submerged due to the heavy rain. Excess water is flowing over Poteru village disrupting road communication in the area.
MV-40 village under Kalimela block has been reportedly submerged due to the torrential rain. Several houses, furniture and goods have been washed away causing severe problems for the residents. Some labourers were stranded near Poteru bridge due to the flash flood at MV-39 village. Fortunately, an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team managed to rescue the stranded labourers.
Similarly, Papermetla area under Chitrakonda block in the district has also been severely affected by the excess rain. As many as five gram pachayats- Jodamba, Panasput, Andarapali, Jantri and Gajalmamudi have been alienated from the mainland. Treatment of patients has been severely affected as rainwater entered Jodamba Primary Health Center.
