Rainfall activity picked up pace in several districts of Odisha on Monday, with Paradip radar imagery indicating widespread showers over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul and Keonjhar, triggered by the influence of a developing low-pressure system over the region, informed IMD scientist Umashankar Das.
According to the regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, the rainfall is a direct result of the low pressure over northwest Madhya Pradesh and an emerging system over the Bay of Bengal, both of which are now affecting Odisha’s interior and northern belts.
Widespread Rainfall Expected Till July 19
Weather experts warn that the state will continue to experience light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, likely in parts of northern, coastal, and western Odisha till July 19.
Gusty winds and thunderstorm activity may accompany the showers, especially in areas under the active influence of the twin low-pressure zones, the weather department stated.
Yellow Alert Active for 24 Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has retained its Yellow Alert for 24 districts, urging residents in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and others to remain alert for possible heavy downpours and temporary waterlogging.
Rainfall estimates range between 7 and 11 cm, with wind speeds expected to touch 30-40 kmph in affected zones. The warning is especially crucial for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Rain Intensity May Ease After July 17
Though rainfall is forecast to persist through the week, IMD projections indicate a likely decrease in intensity post-July 17 as the low-pressure systems weaken. However, intermittent showers may continue in pockets of southern and northern Odisha.
