A week after the pictures of the sanctum sanctorum (Garbha Gruha) of Puri Srimandir went viral on social media, the Singhadwar police on Tuesday arrested a Bangladeshi YouTuber in this connection.
He has been identified as Akash Choudhury. The cops have seized his passport, mobile phone and other gadgets for verification purposes.
Based on a complaint by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the Singhadwar police swung into action and made the arrest. SJTA administrator (Security) VS Chandrasekhar Rao himself had filed complaint seeking strict action against the YouTuber for clicking pictures of the temple interior and circulating them on social media.
Moreover, a servitor of the temple had also lodged a complaint at the police station in this regard.
The YouTuber from Bangladesh had posted the photos on his Facebook account which soon went viral. After all the pictures went viral, questions were raised over lapses in security measures at the 12th century shrine as mobile phones and cameras are strictly prohibited inside.
On the other hand, devotees also expressed concern and blamed the administration for the lapse. They demanded the SJTA to upgrade the security arrangement. The Bangladeshi youth has been booked for violating provisions under IT Act and Shree Jagannath Temple Act.
This is not the first time that the pictures of the interior areas of Srimandir have been shared on social media. Reportedly, on multiple occasions, such security lapses were seen.
People somehow manage to take electronic gadgets to the temple despite the presence of security personnel.
