Puri Srimandir servitors seek PM Modi’s intervention for use of 'desi' ghee in Mahaprasad preparation

Members of the Suara Mahasuara Nijog have sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to ensure the use of pure desi ghee in Mahaprasad preparation at Sri Jagannath Temple. They emphasised maintaining sanctity and proposed establishing a gaushala for a steady supply of pure ghee, aligning with gau-raksha policies. This follows SJTA's decision to use OMFED ghee.

A couple of days after Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) decided to use only OMFED ghee for preparation of Mahaprasad and lighting lamps at Srimandir, members of Suara Mahasuara Nijog have sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention and urged him to take necessary measure to ensure the use of pure desi ghee in Mahaprasad preparation.

In a letter, the members of the  Suara Mahasuara Nijog have urged PM Modi to preserve the sanctity of Mahaprasad by allowing the use of pure desi cow ghee. 

The servitors also urged the PM to take necessary steps to establish a gaushala at Lord Jagannath’s Amrutarohini plot for a steady supply of pure desi ghee to the temple.

“Establishing gaushala would not only preserve the sanctity of Mahaprasad but also promote the overall welfare and development of cows, in alignment with the ‘gau-raksha’ policies that are so dear to your heart. ….This initiative would not only support the temple’s ritual but also contribute to the larger cause of ‘Gau-seva’ and sustainable cow development,” the letter read.

Notably, the SJTA has decided to use only OMFED ghee at the Srimandir following a meeting on Tuesday. The SJTA chief administrator also wrote a letter to the MD, OMFED, informing about the decision taken.The MD has also been urged to take steps for a special depot.
