As many as seven persons sustained serious injuries after a violent clash erupted between the residents of two villages, Katuru and Rameyapatna under Chikiti notified area council (NAC) in Ganjam over the opening of a river mouth. 

The conflict has prompted strict action from Golanthara police leading to the arrest 40 people—19 from Kuturu and 21 from Rameyapatna over the violent clash.

Two Separate Cases Lodged

Two separate cases were registered at the Golanthara police station regarding the conflict. In response to the escalating tensions, authorities have imposed a prohibitory order under Section 163 on BNS and deployed three platoons of police force in the affected areas to avoid any untoward incident.

The clash, which took place on Monday, left seven people injured. All the injured were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in the district. 

“Five persons from Kuturu and three from Rameyapatna sustained injuries in the clash. They are undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital. A police team has also been deployed at hospital to coordinate with the doctors during the treatment,” Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said.

Three Platoons of Force Deployed

“We have deployed three platoons of police force at the villages and prohibitory orders have been clamped. Two separate cases have been registered over the matter,” the top cop informed.

Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation, and security has been tightened to prevent further unrest in the region.
