The Well-Marked Low Pressure over South-East Bay of Bengal (BoB) has concentrated into a Depression at 5:30 am on Friday over South-East and adjacent South-West BoB, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is currently at about 790 km East South-East of Puducherry and 800 km South-East of Chennai. It is likely to intensify further into a deep depression and later into a cyclonic storm on December 3.
The cyclonic storm is likely to cross South Andhra Pradesh adjacent to Tamil Nadu coast on early December 4 morning.
While no warning has been issued for Odisha, light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and at one or two places over the rest of the districts of Coastal Odisha, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal from December 3 to December 6.
Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of the districts of Odisha during this period.
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to occur over Southwest Bay of Bengal from December 1 morning and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from December 2 morning. The wind speed will increase to gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from December 3 morning for the subsequent 24 hours.
Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to blow over westcentral Bay of Bengal from December 2 evening and is likely to increase becoming 45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph from December 3 morning.
Sea condition is likely to remain rough to very rough from December 1 morning becoming very rough to high from December 3 morning for the subsequent 24 hours over southwest Bay of Bengal.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of southwest Bay of Bengal from December 1 and West Central Bay of Bengal from December 2 till further notice.
The IMD has urged the fishermen who are out at the sea to return to the coast by December 1.
